Bio
I grew up in the Amish country of Pennsylvania and discovered the German folk potters of the area during my undergraduate work at Millersville State College in the mid 70s. I became aware of the rich crafts culture in eastern Kentucky when I moved to Knott Co. in 1975. My work began at the Hindman Settlement School and was inspired by many local artisans and the floral designs on their wood carvings and weavings. My pottery is a blend of functional and decorative work, utilizing detailed carvings and cut-out designs. Most of my work is fired in electric kilns and shows the contrasts of natural clay surfaces next to high gloss glazes.
