Bio
Growing up in a family of artists taught Amelia Stamps an appreciation of the handmade object. She values the beauty of simplicity, the integrity of form and the richness of decoration. Stamps attempts to instill each of these qualities into her work and her daily life. By making pottery that is honest and true to herself, she hopes to share with others the beauty and insight clay brings to her life.
Amelia Stamps received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina in Asheville. To add to her studies she also completed two one-year assistantships with North Carolina ceramic artists. Since 2002, she has been a full-time studio potter selling her work by traveling to craft shows, establishing wholesale accounts and exhibiting in galleries. Amelia received an Emerging Artist Award from the Kentucky Arts Council, which helped fund a trip to China to research ceramics.
Amelia maintains a home studio in Lexington, Ky., where she and her husband are raising two daughters. She also enjoys teaching adult and children’s pottery classes at Kentucky Mudworks.
