The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra (KSO) was founded in 1992 to make symphonic music attractive, accessible and affordable to residents throughout the tri-state area and the Commonwealth. Through innovative thematic programming, the KSO has become known nationally for its variety and presentation. KSO has collaborated over the years with the Kentucky National Guard, the Cincinnati Zoo, UK Opera Theatre, Saturday Night Live, Hasbro Toys, Disney and many other artists and arts groups. KSO audiences appreciate the quality, variety and surprises.
The KSO, over the years, has also launched several subsidiary groups specializing in authentic performance of various American musical genres (The Flood Wall Jazz Quintet, Newport Ragtime Band, Covington Devou-Doo Daddies, K-so Combo and KSO Boogie Band). These groups offer the KSO flexibility with regard to cost, repertoire and venue logistics over the full 70 member orchestra.
