Ron Cooper uses naturally colored American alabaster stone to create bowls and treasure boxes. Many of Cooper’s pieces are composed of different colors of stone combined to create patterned designs and accented with wood interiors, lids and bases.
Alabaster is a beautiful stone that lends itself well to carving, shaping and engraving. Because each piece of stone has its own distinctive colors, texture and veining, one never knows quite what to expect. Cutting into it is a unique experience every time. Cooper’s experience in working with metal and wood has enabled him to design and build much of the tooling he needs for turning both stone and wood on a lathe.
