Marvin discovered the joy of creating “Band Saw Boxes” after receiving a pamphlet about them. While living in a rural setting, nature became his inspiration and the backbone of his craft. Endangered species, leaves, birds and horses are the models from which he carefully designs each piece. Hardwoods are selected that will enhance the character of the design. For example, Zebrawood with its stripes is used for the Tiger. Patterns are carefully placed to utilize the artistic grain of the wood. A natural finish of Bee's wax and Linseed oil brings out the full beauty of the finished box. Each drawer’s interior is flocked so that a soft texture cushions objects. The natural movement of the animals is worked into each "box” to give it a life of its own.
