Bio
I am a painter working in both oil and pastel. I grew up in western Pennsylvania and moved to Kentucky in 1979. My art is inspired by our beautiful countryside, landmarks, and living creatures both wild and domestic. I take photographs of my surroundings almost every day and use these as inspiration for my paintings. In my photos I look for the beauty of everyday objects and familiar places. I am inspired by the early morning mists that hang over the hollows and the long shadows on the fields. I love the evenings when reds, oranges, and purples streak across the sky.
Many of my paintings feature animals and people. Instead of making traditional portraits, I try to capture ordinary people doing what they do in the real world. My animals hopefully have a bit of personality without seeming cartoonish. I also feel that my paintings have a nostalgic mood without being overly sentimental or corny.
I am primarily a traditional representative artist. I hope that you will look at my work and see something more. Perhaps you will feel a sense of time and place. You may see color used in surprising ways. It may bring back a memory of an earlier time. I hope you will see more than a photographic image.
In addition, I enjoy selling my paintings in person rather than in a gallery. I like to hear what the customer sees and why you like a particular painting and why you want to give it as a gift or hang it in your home. I also paint in many sizes. I feel you might admire a larger painting but do not have the space in your home or it's simply not in the budget. Maybe you just want a small memento of a fun day of shopping. Anyway, I would just enjoy meeting you.
