    Bio

My formal training started decades ago at the University of Missouri.  Since then, numerous fiber arts techniques have captured my attention, including: needlepoint, smocking, fabric restoration, spinning and weaving.  In 1989 I became intriqued with quilting and my artistic journey progressed with that as a focus.

In 1998 I returned to school to finish my undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky.  I graduated in May 2004 with a BFA in studio art, focusing on textiles.  My preference is to create one-of-a-kind, studio art quilts and art-to-wear.  I thoroughly enjoy the tactile experience afforded by working with all types of fibers.  My fiber works have been exhibited in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

A passion to create personal designs on fabrics that were not commercially available led me to start my own business, Colors-To-Dye-For, a hand-dyed fabric company.  Now, my work is almost solely focused on original hand created fabrics.

The constant challenges that motivate me are finding new ways to add color and texture to fabrics and creating clothing that is distinctive and truly wearable for men, women and children.  I am especially proud of my line of “Cate Scarves”, named for my sister-in-law, Cate Lamb, a cancer survivor.  When she underwent chemotherapy, she lost her hair.  I hand dyed a selection of silk scarves expressly for her.  Their color, texture and beauty brought Cate joy.  Now, to celebrate her recovery and to make a cancer victim’s day just a little brighter, for every Cate Scarf that I sell, I gift one to the Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky.  My hope is that the receipients will experience a bit of the joy that Cate felt, despite their difficult circumstances.
