Bio

Ballgowns swirl and tailcoats fly when Lexington Vintage Dance (LVD) leaps upon the stage. Enhance your celebration of an historic site, person or event with a lively performance of historic ballroom dance or treat your audience to a stand-alone performance.

Experience these great eras of ballroom dance:

  • Regency (1800-1830), the time of Jane Austen, lilting country dances and new quadrilles
  • Romantic (1840-1875), when dynamic polkas, waltzes, and mazurkas flourished, even during the Civil War
  • Late Victorian and Turn-of-the-Century (1875-1910), with the glorious Viennese waltz and the American two-step
  • Ragtime and Jazz Age (1910-1930), when the tango and the Charleston were irresistible

Performances may have special themes, such as Jane Austen, Kentucky music or the very popular “Downton Abbey Era: Titanic to the Jazz Age.” Lexington Vintage Dance offers performances, demonstrations, workshops and entertainment for receptions.

Your audience might like to learn a 19th century dance following a performance. LVD’s leaders have studied with acclaimed experts in historic dance. Choreographies use authentic steps and figures from 1800 to the 1930s.

Lexington Vintage Dance knows the music of these eras, too. They produced two CDs: “Lady Caroline’s Regency Romp: Dance Music of the Early 19th Century” and “A Romantic Revel in the Athens of the West,” with music written by Kentucky composers from 1835 to 1875.

Whether your goal is history, education, the arts or all three, let Lexington Vintage Dance sweep you off your feet.
