My passion for woodworking stems from a love of creating something beautiful that brings happiness to both myself and others.
I have always been drawn to wood as my chosen medium. What first captured my attention was the fact that wood was once alive. I am fascinated by living things and often find myself in awe of the world around us. The idea that a piece of wood can trace its existence through generations of trees, seeds and new growth over centuries is something I find deeply inspiring.
Working with wood has taught me to slow down and pay attention. I enjoy learning the unique characteristics of different species and discovering the colors, grain patterns and textures that nature has already created. Rather than covering or disguising those qualities, I strive to reveal them. Much of my work is guided by a desire to showcase the beauty that already exists within the material.
For me, woodworking is also a form of personal expression. Using my hands to transform rough lumber into something useful and beautiful allows me to give physical form to ideas, feelings and creativity that would otherwise remain inside me. Every piece I create carries a part of that journey. The care, attention and thought invested in each project create a connection that remains long after it leaves my shop.
One of the greatest rewards of creating is knowing that something I have poured so much of myself into will become part of someone else's life. Whether it is used daily in a kitchen, displayed in a home, or passed from one generation to the next, I find deep satisfaction in knowing that my work can bring joy, beauty or meaning to another person.
Early in my woodworking journey, I began to realize that the greatest reward was not the sale of something I had made, but seeing how it impacted the people who used it. Through pieces created for schools, community organizations, nursing homes and individuals facing physical challenges, I witnessed firsthand how handcrafted objects could bring enjoyment, connection and purpose to everyday life. Those experiences provided a sense of fulfillment that financial success alone could never match. They also helped me understand that woodworking could be more than a hobby and played an important role in encouraging me to pursue it as a career.
As a Kentucky Crafted artist, I am honored to contribute to our state's rich tradition of craftsmanship and grateful for the opportunity to share my work with others. My hope is that every piece that leaves my shop carries not only the beauty of the wood itself, but also the care, respect and appreciation for life that inspired its creation.
