Anna Kline and John Looney are the heart of Swift Silver. For over 10 years now, they have toured across the Southeast spreading the gospel of Southern sound.
Their collaboration spans the great expanse of the American songbook—directly influenced by the redemptive strains of gospel, the drawling tremolo of rhythm and blues, and the raw twang of rural Appalachian life, the duo conjures up the pain and pleasure of calloused hands, tilled earth, and the groove of a steel needle digging into a wax 45.
Known for their seamless harmonies and stirring arrangements, they lend old songs new life while their original songs are cut from that same cloth.
For the majority of their band life, Anna and John were known as the bluegrass duo, Grits & Soul.
With a history of major festivals and appearances under their belt—MerleFest, Bristol Rhythm and Roots, Suwannee Springfest & Suwannee’s Magnolia Fest, Countryfest in Belgium—and a performance on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern—the time came where they felt led to explore new musical space. Thus, Swift Silver was born.
Swift Silver is an authentic Kentucky music experience. Anna and John are ideal for festivals and listening rooms, weddings or private events, and also compliment programming line-ups for music camps and workshops. They lead educational workshops for adults and youth on topics such as songwriting and arranging inspired by traditional Appalachian music and vocal harmonies, as well as guitar and mandolin performance and techniques.
Anna Kline and John Looney perform as a guitar and mandolin duo, and can also put together a six-piece square dance band if the occasion calls for it.
