Paula Zaglul is a Lexington based visual artist, working predominantly in the area of mixed media painting, utilizing mediums such as ink, watercolor, acrylic and oil paint on surfaces including canvas or board. “Conceptual abstract expressionism" describes her genre. Her background in fiber art, printmaking, and drawing all bear relevance to her painting process. Warp and weft work their way out of the push and pull of positive and negative space, creating a textural point of attention. Stand close to her work and you'll often see a meticulous, sometimes open grain. Impressions transfer from one work to another. Look for these mirror impressions within a work series. By design, her paintings carry themes like perception, consciousness, connection, curiosity and complexity. She has fine-tuned her process to allow herself to work intuitively. She values staying curious, open-minded, engaged and present, and honors these concepts in the making of her art as a reflective practice.
