Kentucky Crafted Artist
  • Metal

Ken was born and raised in Kentucky. After graduating from Michigan State University with a BA in studio arts, he began a career in commercial art. Working as an Art Director, Designer and Illustrator, he spent time in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan before moving his family to California.

Ken spent twenty years in California, working as a designer and illustrator for several top advertising agencies. The work was rewarding and fulfilling, but hectic. That's when he decided to simplify his life. He says, "I just wanted to get away from the deadlines and become my own client."  Moving back to Kentucky and building a home on Lake Barkley seemed the right solution.

This move gave Ken the opportunity to do what he always wanted to do, become a fine artist.  He started making metal sculptures and they were immediately well received. "I really enjoy making them. Each one is different. I love the design possibilities that are presented with each new object. When I make a fish or a snake, I don't try to reproduce any specific species, I just let it happen."

Ken still does an occasional illustration for advertising or publishing. "It lets me keep my hand in the business that was very good to me for so many years."  He and his wife, Sandy, have two daughters and four grandchildren. They all have located to this area of the country. "It makes life a lot more enjoyable to have family close."

Ken's work can be viewed in Galleries in Paducah, KY, Berea, KY, Indianapolis, IN, West Newton, MA, and Nashville, TN. His work is in collections throughout the country.
