Bio

Miles Osland (saxophones and flute) is professor of saxophone and director of jazz studies at the University of Kentucky. He has appeared throughout North America, South America and Europe as a guest conductor, performer and clinician for Selmer Saxophones and Bay Woodwind mouthpieces. Miles has recorded over 17 CDs with Sea Breeze and Open Loop Records. He studied at California State University, Northridge, and the Eastman School of Music. Miles performs in a variety of groups including:

The Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra (KJRO), a 17-piece ensemble, will bring the house down as it shows firsthand the color, power, texture, energy, soul and outright human communicative quality that big band music so forcefully generates. The KJRO's CDs, Ellington Celebration and Flying Home, are available at www.milesosland.com.

The DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra (DOJO) has been delighting audiences all across the Commonwealth and the Midwest for over two decades. Directed by virtuoso trumpeter Vince DiMartino and high-energy saxophonist Miles Osland, their first recording, Off the Charts, has garnered considerable radio play on jazz stations across the country and has won critical praise with one reviewer stating, “This album is a sterling example of how the big band can fit well into the contemporary jazz scene without losing any of the unique sound that continues to send tingles up and down the spines of listeners—whether the band is tooting a barn burner or caressing a ballad.”

The Osland Saxophone Quartet is a chamber ensemble with a unique repertoire that spans both classical and jazz genres. They are dedicated to diversity, leaving no musical stone unturned.

The Osland/Dailey Jazztet was formed in 2006 and consists of Miles Osland, woodwinds; Raleigh Dailey, piano; Danny Cecil, bass; and Paul Deatherage, percussion. The group plays original music as well as reinventions of classic jazz material. The quartet’s debut recording, Evidence, was released on the Sea Breeze Jazz label in the summer of 2009, received major airplay across the globe and has garnered critical reviews.

The Osland/Dailey Duo consists of Miles Osland on woodwinds and Raleigh Dailey on piano/keyboards. The Duo specializes in performing original and standard jazz and classical compositions. In an intimate setting, the two musicians make their music flow like a conversation between old friends. The Duo has toured extensively throughout the Midwest and recently returned from a very successful musical cultural exchange tour of Ecuador. Other international appearances include performances in Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Scotland and Italy. Both Miles and Raleigh are past recipients of the Kentucky Arts Council’s Al Smith Fellowship for excellence in composition.
