Bio

Ambo Dance Theatre is a Louisville-based contemporary dance company creating original, interdisciplinary performances that engage audiences through movement, storytelling, and collaboration. Rooted in modern dance, the company combines dance, theatre, multimedia, and visual elements to create works that explore social issues, personal narratives, and the shared human experience.

Using a collaborative creative process, Ambo Dance Theatre's performances reflect not only the vision of the choreographer but also the movement vocabulary, perspectives, and lived experiences of the dancers themselves. This approach results in innovative and accessible works that invite audiences to connect with complex ideas through a variety of viewpoints.

Founded on the belief that dance should be accessible to all bodies, identities, and backgrounds, the company is committed to creating welcoming artistic experiences for diverse communities. Their repertoire ranges from fully produced concert works to site-specific, interactive, and community-engaged performances, allowing presenters to select programming that best fits their venue and audience.

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing artistry, accessibility, and professional opportunities in contemporary dance, Ambo Dance Theatre brings professional, thoughtfully crafted performances to theaters, schools, festivals, community events, and nontraditional spaces. Each performance offers audiences an opportunity to experience contemporary dance as a meaningful form of communication, reflection, and connection.
