Bio
Duane Keaton lives in Georgetown, Kentucky, with his wife and two children. His faith in God gives him a love of life which he expresses through his enjoyment of art and teaching. After a 20-year career teaching art in public school, he decided to pursue his dream of being an artist and run a small business with his wife.
Duane uses LEGO® bricks for his mosaics because of their familiarity and their potential to be used in a unique and surprising way. He has found that people who see them are oftentimes surprised that they are made of LEGO® bricks. People will notice them from a distance and think they may be photographs and walk up to them for a closer inspection. When they realize the images are made of LEGO® bricks they smile and even touch the mosaics as they are made of such a familiar and tactile medium. The pieces he creates are often large in scale, quite colorful, and are eye-catching from across a room. He primarily does portraits but can also create abstract works that are equally as vibrant.
Duane has been creating mosaics since 2022 but has already had several of them displayed in galleries around central Kentucky and in the State Capitol Building. He hopes for future opportunities to show his mosaics in galleries, hotel lobbies, office buildings and other areas with large spaces.
