Art-to-Wear by Cindy Houston - Natural Fibers + Dyes.
Bowling Green artist Cindy Houston creates unique works of wearable art using organic cotton fabric and locally sourced plants. Each piece reflects the natural world on cloth, transformed through the process of botanical alchemy. Her materials - Global Organic Textile Standard cotton jersey, local plants and zero-waste patterns - are all part of her commitment to a sustainable artistic practice. The one-size-fits-all scarves, vests, tunics and kimono jackets are made using a low-waste approach to pattern making, cutting, sewing and dyeing. All items are generously sized and make a stunning addition to any wardrobe. You can experience her work in her Bowling Green studio by appointment, at juried art shows across the country, in craft galleries nationwide and on her website, where she also writes about seasonable dye plants, works in progress and favorite surface design techniques.
