Although lavender isn't a widely-grown crop in Kentucky, you can find nearly 600 fragrant purple plants blooming in late spring and early summer at The Lavender Farm at Woodstock, a small lavender farm located outside of Somerset.
The farm is owned by Allison Horseman and Mary May, a mother-daughter duo passionate about their farming legacy and diversity in agriculture…and it all started with $600.
Our father and grandfather, L.G. Colyer, borrowed that sum to buy a farm in south-central Kentucky where lavender plants now grow. During the Great Depression, he did not have the means to make the payments on his loan, so he traveled by train to Detroit to work for two years.
The money he sent home to Kentucky would save this land and begin the farm’s legacy.
Today on the farm, we infuse our love of agriculture, our love of family and our love of our land into a rejuvenating home, body and kitchen product line.
