Bio
Tracy Pennington of Madcap Mosaics creates fun, unique, practical and soulful glass mosaic art.
Tracy was the recipient of the 2014 M.A. Hadley Prize for Visual Art. That prize gave her the opportunity to spend a week studying under a mosaic master in Ravenna, Italy.
Tracy’s main goal in art making is to create inner connection - person with place, senses with body, soul with soul. She believes art has intrinsic therapeutic power to transform us. Whether it delights the senses, invites serious inner contemplation, or enters into the unconscious experience, her art is made as a gift to all of those who encounter it.
Tracy has a great deal of experience with children, not only because she is mom to two girls and four boys, but also because she enjoys connecting children to art. She has worked on collaborative projects with the Kentucky School for the Deaf, Zachary Taylor Elementary, Portland Christian School, Maryhurst and Jefferson Community and Technical College. She did a summer residency project with the Boys and Girls Club of Shawnee, as well as a Girl Scout project for Dunn Elementary.
Tracy's glass mosaic murals can be seen across Louisville at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Maryhurst, Westport Road Kroger, the Center for Women and Families, and Maker's Mark Distillery in Loretto.
Potential Residency Project
What better way to bring color, texture and creativity to the school environment than for your students to design and create a unique glass mosaic artwork?
There are endless opportunities to add eye-catching features to your school. Add mosaics to existing outdoor elements such as pillars, retaining walls and brick walls. Create murals, benches or large planters for indoors or outdoors.
Grade levels: 4th grade and up
Time required: 1-4 weeks, depending on project size
Students will participate in design creation, select their own materials, create, grout and install the mosaic. All mosaic work will be created with premium glass tile and quality materials to ensure your school’s project will be enjoyed for many years to come.
