Bio
Working as a studio potter challenges my understanding of beauty and self-expression. I love the ancient process of pottery making, a process that creates a rich surface of atmospheric markings of fire. I like to think my role is a conscious intermediary between earth and fire, as I work to expand a continuum of domestic function and form with all its meanings and mysteries. I enjoy painting and admire the works of the Impressionists and Expressionists. I use brushwork as abstraction, such as a symbolic garland of color that explores the synergy of lines and shapes from birds and wild flowers, strung together like the Appalachian foothills along the horizon line of my backyard.
My formal training includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University. I currently teach art as an adjunct at Eastern Kentucky University.
