We have been making oval Shaker Boxes for over 20 years. Our boxes are copies of an original Shaker design. We make these boxes from walnut, cherry, or maple wood in a number of different sizes. Each box is hand sanded or rubbed 3 to 4 times. We finish the walnut and cherry boxes with a high gloss lacquer. We put old fashioned milk paint (available in a variety of colors) on the boxes made of maple and hand rub these, wearing some of the paint off, to give each box an “antique look”. We continue the Shaker tradition of “striving for perfection in woodworking” in our hand made Shaker items.
Most people use oval Shaker Boxes as a “decoration” and display them in a stack of different sizes. The lid is removable on each box and some people actually use these boxes to store items in (much like the Shakers did 150 years ago).
We also make oval carriers and trays in various sizes. We offer a salt and pepper shaker that fits in our smallest carrier.
