Bio
Lloyd Hughes is a 4th generation metalsmith who specializes in hand forged steel and bronze pieces. His work has been influenced by Bill Valerius, a master blacksmith in Chicago, under whom Lloyd studied in the late 1980's. While hammering hot metal is a centuries old craft, many of Lloyd's designs have a contemporary look. One unusual aspect of his work is the use of bronze as a forging medium. While bronze is most often used as a casting medium, Lloyd creates many bronze pieces using traditional blacksmithing techniques.
In addition to architectural commissions Lloyd creates furniture and home accessories such as lighting, clocks and bowls. He also creates sculptural work.
