Bio
Mark Whitley Studio is an award-winning, one-man furniture shop located in south central Kentucky specializing in the creation of original furniture. Using a variety of American hardwoods, Mark creates heirloom-quality, contemporary furniture and sculpture for homes, offices and public spaces.
The journey to studio furniture-making began 35 years ago when Mark received a hammer for his sixth birthday. Since then, he has not stopped creating. Growing up in a cabinet shop on the family farm in southern Kentucky, he began to learn traditional methods of furniture-making that are the heart of his work today.
Mark’s furniture is held in collections from coast to coast and clients include Alltech, Chapman University, the Jerry Baker Foundation, and the Disciples of Christ Christian Church.
Mark has received numerous state and regional awards including the 2010 Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council, inclusion in the 2014 Smithsonian Art Show, and an Individual Artist Award from the Tanne Foundation in 2015.
