Bio
In 1966 the Owensboro Symphony performed its first concert. The Symphony today is a star among orchestras its size and even larger and plays a powerful role in the cultural, educational and economic life of Western Kentucky. Its performance levels amaze first-time visitors and its fiscal responsibility is equally outstanding in an era in which too many symphony's either falter or cease operations. The Owensboro Symphony presents a broad range of programs and services for the benefit and enjoyment of the region it serves. Professional, classically trained musicians are engaged to perform great music and deliver the orchestra's mission: to create meaningful, imaginative performances and educational programs that enrich lives and create memorable experiences. The Owensboro Symphony is one of the nation's smallest orchestras to operate an Academy where private lessons are taught to more than 250 students a week. The Symphony also sponsors a Youth Orchestra program that involves over 100 young musicians.
Under the current leadership of music director and conductor, Troy Quinn, the orchestra performs a five concert subscription series from October to April each year at the RiverPark Center. There are also many other offerings in the community such as free community concerts, Sunday Chamber Concerts in area churches, Tour and Run-out Concerts in cities throughout the region, Musicians in the Schools, In-School Residencies with Guest Artists and In-school Strings Attached programs.
The Symphony has performed at such high profile events as the gubernatorial inaugurations for Governors Patton, Beshear and Bevin, the funeral of former Governor and Senator Wendell H. Ford, and the RiverPark Center’s 25th Anniversary Gala. Partnerships and collaborations have included work with such artists as LeAnn Rimes, Anne Murray, Ronnie Milsap, Michael W. Smith, Dionne Warwick, Jim Brickman, Mannheim Steamroller and Celtic Women. The Symphony often serves as pit orchestra for traveling Broadway productions.
The Owensboro Symphony is committed to creating that perfect program you require. From a full orchestra to a solo artist, we can develop an offering that works for your venue and budget.
