Kim Huber

Kim Huber - AtmosphereI paint contemporary landscapes on silk. For many years I have been fascinated with the wonderful fiber - silk. As a textile student, I became interested in the Japanese Kimono. I first began painting silk by using an ancient Japanese technique. Over the years my technique for painting silk has evolved. As an artist, painting silk allows me to express the energy of color. My inspiration is about nature, landscapes, trees, atmospheres, the sun and the moon. My technique is a combination of fabric dying with painting and collage. I use a resist technique including wax, as well as crayons and stenciling techniques. Some works include piecing and fusing, as well as paper. Windows and the idea of looking out/looking in and seeing a fragment of a larger world has captured my interest. I've been making things since I was a child, sewing, painting, making things out of paper, dying, embroidery, making clothes. Now I do this. I don't know why, except to say the feeling I get when I create something is good. It is a privilege to create.
