Bruce Frank

Bruce FrankBotanical photography is a facet of an artistic continuum that began when, as a child, I first poised a crayon over a blank sheet of manila paper. I was fortunate to have supportive parents who nurtured my artistic talents, so it was not surprising that my formal education culminated in a Master of Fine Arts degree, and continues today as an ongoing process of learning and creating.

Capturing an image through the camera lens using conventional slide film, scanning it into a computer, and manipulating the resulting “digital pigment” by hand with a graphics tablet is a creative process that endlessly fascinates me. This series of techniques transports the original photograph into the realms of painting and drawing, allowing me to accentuate the essence of the subject’s nature.

Involved in art organizations since the mid-Seventies, my recent adjudicated affiliations include the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and the Kentucky Arts Council’s Visual Arts at the Market program. I was sponsored by the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council (now LexArts) and private funds to create a public art piece for “Dynamic Doors” and have been awarded solo shows by the Lexington Art League and The Carnegie Center for Visual and Performing Arts. My work is available for view and purchase in many venues, including The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, The Museum of the City of New York, The Greenbrier, and Grand Hotel.
