The style of painting that feeds my soul with passion the most is "plein air" ( the process of painting the landscape on site). I like being out in the elements where I can feel, breathe, smell, and see the colors of the great creation I find in Kentucky! In order to accomplish this, I use complimentary colors as a base painting, then layer subsequent pigments on top. I am inspired by Vincent Van Gogh and Aleksander Titovets who used a thick impasto application of oil paint to express a sculptural and textural quality. Van Gogh, Titovets and " The California Impressionists" painted au plein air. I find the best teacher is painting on-site, where I learn volumes about color, value and design. Then, when I go into the studio in winter I translate all that I learned from " fair weather painting" to a much larger format. I paint landscapes, animals and people.
