Roadside Theater

Roadside Theater Roadside Theater is a performing ensemble theater located in the coalfields of eastern Kentucky. Since 1975, the company has been creating and touring original musical plays drawn from the rich history and culture of its mountain home.

The company has toured to 43 states; has been in residence a number of times off-Broadway; and has represented the United States at theater festivals in Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, and the Czech Republic.

Internationally famous for its inter-cultural collaborations, Roadside Theater also creates and tours new American musicals with companies such as Teatro Pregones, a Puerto Rican theater from the Bronx; Junebug, an African American theater from New Orleans; and Idiwanan An Chawe, a Native American theater from Zuni, New Mexico.

In addition to award-winning performances, Roadside conducts community cultural residencies designed to celebrate a community’s history and give public voice to local stories.
