Marianne Brown

Marianne BrownMarianne Brown has been making pottery in central Kentucky for several years.  All of her work is thrown on the potter’s wheel and some pieces are then altered to their final shape.  After being formed, most of Marianne's work is decorated with textured patterns created from a clay or wooden stamp that she has also made.  The symbols and patterns in her stamps vary tremendously in their sources. Some are from ancient times such as the spiral, representing life; others are from Celtic or Christian history.  Also, there are designs she uses from the Mayan culture that represents their calendar and ancient Egyptian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese culture such as the lotus flower, symbolizing birth and rebirth.  Still other designs are derived from more local and contemporary sources such as traditional quilt patterns, architecture and things found in nature.

After being decorated, each of Marianne's pieces is glazed and fired to 2300° F in a gas kiln.  All of the glazes are lead free and all of the pottery is oven and dishwasher safe.
