Peter Jaquish

Peter JaquishPeter D. Jaquish, an artist whose disciplines are painting and large-scale printmaking, resides in the Northern Kentucky Area. Local exhibitions of Pete's work include the Carnegie Center for the Arts, Cathedral Basilica, Cinergy, National Print Show Taos, New Mexico, and other regional venues. His personal paintings are Contemporary still life's in large scale dealing with the interaction of objects, color, shadow, light, and reflection. His prints are large-scale black and white reliefs of portraiture dealing with personal insights and confrontation. This approach is not only in the artist's work, but also in his teaching methodology. Pete can be found conducting art classes for children from grades K-8 or working with groups of various ages, backgrounds, and incomes. He also does murals of various subject matter with kids at risk, schools, Health Departments, Mental Health Groups, Community Centers, and Neighbor hood Associations, and Local Government Agencies.

He has lead or been commissioned for murals in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, mid-Ohio, and Louisville.

Potential Residency Project

Mural Painting: 20-day residency with elementary students

I approach the project depending on the group's age, desire of outcome, and message they wish to express. With children I begin with formal and informal teaching (one on one discussion as elements come up) of line, basic color theory, perspective, and composition through the project generally a mural. Through the process of brainstorming and sketches we come up with subject matter and design with a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. During the actual painting we work with grid and scale for transference of the design to the wall. Children learn to mix color and create tonal differences, work with levels, chalk lines, measuring tapes, stencils and various painting techniques and tools.

Through this process the children learn the basics of art, new brainstorming techniques, how to use math for planning and layout, the use of tools, and team work.

The mural becomes a source of pride and ownership for all involved.

The process and the participants are digitally photographed during the project and a CD is then given to the Sponsors for distribution and archiving.
