Cheryl Lynne Skinner
Music: Solos, Duos, and Trios
Composer, musician, arranger, bandleader and educator Cheryl Lynne Skinner performs all-age concerts celebrating the gift of music as the universal language, crossing borders and bringing diverse people together. Skinner poses a triple threat performing proficiently on flute, vocals and piano. She marches to a different beat leading her ensemble through an eclectic repertoire featuring original music you won’t hear anywhere else. The music defies classification synthesizing diverse styles into her own brand of contemporary muse-music unleashed from soul experience that inspires, empowers and uplifts the audience.
Skinner’s independent record label Elinez Music celebrates two releases: “Sunday Afternoon Live,” recorded at the Kentucky Center as part of the Jazz Cabaret Series, and her current flute release “Shades of Blue”. She was honored in the African American Composers Live Exhibit at Belmont Mansion in Philadelphia, Pa. Her work has been featured in radio documentary and interview by Chicago WBEZ’s Jodi Becker and NPR’s award winning journalist & broadcaster Mara Tapp. Recently her “Sunday Afternoon” CD was included on the playlist of the Spirit of Jazz program on Washington D.C.’s WPFW Spirit of Jazz show by host Lona Alias and featuring Chaka Khan, Martina McBride, Celine Dionne, Josh Groban, Nina Simone, India Arie, Stevie Wonder and many others. With traditional flair Skinner offers "Christmas Potpourri," featuring seasonal music, and "Love Chronicles," an evening of jazz vocal stylings with trio.
