Melvin D. Rowe has been working in clay since 1969, and he has been a full-time potter since 1981. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree.
Melvin develops all his own glazes as well as the designs for his handcrafted, wheel-thrown pottery. He has exhibited his work in Germany, New York City, Washington, Chicago, San Diego and dozens of other cities. He has taught for two universities and conducted numerous workshops.
In Melvin’s words, “Since I was a child, I have loved to make things. In clay, I have found a material that allows me to make almost anything.” Pottery Rowe, Melvin’s retail gallery and studio, is housed in a renovated Victorian era home located on Louisville’s historic Frankfort Avenue.
